A-Wing Star Fighter 2019
Oak, Acetate, Brass, Steel, Copper, Acrylic, Basswood, Zinc
9"x6"x7"
This A-Wing model was a gift for my brother, a Star Wars fanatic. It is one of my favorite pieces due to the challenges it presented. The fighter’s complex, irregular form made creating symmetry more difficult than usual.
The body is made from one solid piece of oak, which is challenging to manipulate and form. In addition, this project was an experiment in weathering techniques. I wanted it to resemble the battle-worn star fighter as closely as possible. I used a diluted solution of acrylic paint and water in order to create its weathered surface.
Despite the challenges, the model was a big success, proven by the excitement my brother showed when he unwrapped it.
