Rolls Royce Silver Ghost
2020
Oak, Basswood, 14k Gold, Sterling Silver, Steel, Copper, Aluminum, Brass, Plexiglass, Enamel, Acrylic
12"x4"x 3"
This piece is a replica of a 1926 Rolls Royce Picadilly Roadster 40/50, also commonly know as a Silver Ghost. I wanted to replicate the craftsmanship and attention to detail that is prevalent in the actual car. From the headlights lined with gold to the dashboard clock, all of the prominent features are there.
The front pantheon grill is constructed from 36 individual pieces. The Spirit of Ecstacy is hammered and formed from sterling silver wire. Underneath, the gearbox and exhaust pipe are connected to a six-cylinder engine.
A lot of the build was experimental. Namely, working with rare metals. In addition, this was my first model with many moving parts. The doors and hood open on custom hinges. The steering wheel spins. There are a pair of silver keys on a gold loop that can be inserted into the ignition. The front wheels rotate on a mechanism I created. And of course, the wheels spin too.
